10 Completely Natural Ways to Increase Energy

Professionals, students, parents — we all suffer from the day-to-day fatigue of whatever hat(s) we wear. There’s no shame in turning to your loyal friend the coffee pot, but when you find yourself pouring four, five, and six cups a day, it may be time to find some different, natural ways to increase energy.

Use these tried-and-true tips to boost productivity, get out of a slump, and increase energy — the natural way!

10 Completely Natural Ways to Increase Energy

Yes, caffeine is a natural energy booster (see tip #4), but there are tons of other natural ways to increase energy too. Use them all for consistent energy throughout the day!

1. Manage Stress

Ever get tired just thinking about a certain thing you have to do? That’s because stress-induced emotions utilize lots of energy. Whether it’s a work-related task, a difficult conversation, or the uncertainty of a future event, diffusing stress can free up energy. Talk with friends, see a therapist, and try relaxation therapies like yoga and meditation to help reduce stress.

2. Get Some Exercise

Exercise is nature’s cure-all remedy. It’s a great way to reduce stress and pretty much guarantees that you’ll sleep more peacefully. Thanks to the oxygen-rich blood that gets delivered to your heart, muscles, and brain when you move, this is one of the simplest natural ways to increase energy. Even a brisk walk on your lunch break can help!

3. Avoid Smoking

Smoking is bad for your health, period. But it actually causes insomnia thanks to the stimulant effects of nicotine. It increases your heart rate, raises blood pressure, and stimulates brain wave activity, making it harder to fall asleep.

4. Use Caffeine Strategically

Coffee, tea, and other caffeinated beverages are great for a quick energy boost. A cup or two in the morning helps waken your mind and keep you running. After about 2 p.m. though, caffeine starts to lose its power. It can cause insomnia and, even if you don’t have trouble falling asleep, you won’t sleep as soundly.

5. Energize with the Right Foods

Eating small meals and snacks every few hours can help minimize fatigue and brain fog. Reach for snacks like nuts, fruits, and veggies to stay alert longer. Nuts specifically provide magnesium and folate, two nutrients that are essential for energy production.

6. Get a Regular B12 Shot

Vitamin B12 can naturally improve memory, balance, and nervous system health. Plus, many people (especially those with a B12 deficiency) find that a monthly B12 shot increases their energy levels. This powerhouse vitamin is perfect for helping you stay productive at work and can be great for stabilizing your mood. They’re super easy to get and only require one quick visit each month.

7. Limit Alcohol

While a beer with coworkers may sound great at lunch, alcohol’s sedative effects are particularly high around mid-afternoon. A happy hour cocktail may be a better choice, but if you need energy for your evening, skip this one too.

8. Make Breakfast a Priority

People who regularly eat breakfast report less stress and fatigue than those who skip this critical meal. Foods high in fiber and protein will stick with you longer than sugary breakfast options.

9. Drink Plenty of Water

Dehydration is a common culprit of fatigue. If the old standard of eight glasses a day isn’t feasible, don’t worry. As long as you don’t have a lingering feeling of thirst and your urine is light-colored, you’re getting enough water.

10. Soak up Some Sun

Studies show that a few minutes of sun exposure can enhance mood, memory, and ability to absorb new information. If you can’t get away from your desk, at least open the blinds to let some rays in!

We could all benefit from stepping away from the coffee and trying one of these natural ways to increase energy. Which will you try first?

If you think B12 shots might be a good option for you, we’ve got you covered! Get in touch to schedule your first injection and see how much energy you’ve been missing!
